I'm happy to be part of the 5th Annual Handmade Holidays blog hop - so many talented crafters, bloggers and designers have come together to share great ideas for handmade gifts. So skip the mall and create something wonderful!
I came up with a fun way to make a gift for the family pet - a customized placemat to put under their food and water dish. It's stamped with my favorite new colors of Colorbox Crafter's inks from Ann Butler Designs for ClearSnap.
Supplies:
- 12" x 12" white cardstock
- 12" x12" solid color cardstock or fabric
- Colorbox Crafter's inkpads
- Rubber stamps
- Paper trimmer
- Two 14" squares of clear vinyl
- Sewing machine
- Clear gel glue
- Straight pins
After the ink is dry, trim the cardstock into 3" squares.
Glue the squares into a mosaic on top of a sheet of colored cardstock or fabric.
Add a stamped card with the pet's name on it.
Sandwich the mosaic between 2 sheets of vinyl (centered) and pin the sandwich together on all four sides.
Stitch around the outside edge of the mosaic, removing the pins as you go.
Rub a small amount of glue between the edges of the vinyl, outside the stitching, to seal the mat. This step helps protect the paper inside from moisture whenever you wipe it clean with a damp cloth.
You can use this same process to make placemats for your family, customized with your kid's names and stamp art.
